Congress OKs airport-delay fix

(Washington, DC)  --  Legislation aimed at ending furloughs of air traffic controllers is on its way to the White House.  The House approved a Senate bill authorizing the Transportation Department to shift money around to stop furloughs.  The vote was 361-41.  FAA furloughs of air traffic controllers were prompted by forced spending cuts.  They caused flight delays at some major airports and growing headaches for lawmakers who have been hearing from angry travelers and airline officials.

The furloughs also prompted much finger pointing between Republicans and Democrats.  Democrats say the across-the-board cuts should be shelved and replaced with more balanced, thoughtful spending reductions.  Republicans accuse the Obama administration of creating a phony crisis to build support for ending the cuts.
