(Cleveland) - Another project in the long awaited revitalization of the Flats East Bank takes a major step forward today, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Aloft Hotel.

Attending were developer Scott Wolstein, Iris Wolstein, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, and County Executive Ed fitzGerald.

Aloft Cleveland Downtown becomes the newest addition as The Wolstein Group and local leaders will be on hand for the ribbon cutting.

The 150 loft style room hotel, owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, is connected to the new Ernst & Young Tower by climate controlled walkway. Phase one of the project will officially be completed when restaurants Willeyville, Lago, and Ken Stewart's are added later this summer.

George Kimson with The Wolstein Group says that the project represents the rebirth of a long awaited construction plan.

"For us, it's part of the revitalization of the Flats East Bank Project," Kimson says. "This is just the first phase of the redevelopment of this project."

The next phase of the project will include more entertainment and restaurants, as well as apartment style housing that Kimson says downtown is in desperate need of.
