(Cleveland) - Gina DeJesus has made her first public appearance...at Sunday’s Cleveland Puerto Rican Parade.
DeJesus was one of the three young women held hostage at Ariel Castro’s house in Cleveland for a decade.
People watching the parade Sunday were delighted to see Gina, many calling her an inspiration to the city of Cleveland because she represents hope.
Gina sat on top of a car's sunroof and waved to the excited crowd.
Her dad Felix DeJesus spoke to the crowd, saying there are other women in trouble and everyone needs to keep a watch. Her mother thanked the crowd in Spanish.
Ariel Castro will spend the rest of his days behind bars after being sentenced to life plus a thousand years.
His home on Seymour Avenue is expected to be torn down this week, perhaps as early as Wednesday.
