(Cleveland) - John Q's Steakhouse on Public Square in downtown Cleveland is ceasing operations June 15. The popular restaurant has been a mainstay in the heart of downtown since 1979.
Owner Rick Cassara tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 it's "just time" to close the steakhouse. Cassara admits competition from other eateries in the downtown area also played a role in his decision to cease operations.
Thirty-nine people are employed by John Q's and Cassara says it was "extremely tough" to look into the eyes of his employees and inform them he was closing the restaurant.
He has twelve employees who have worked there for more than 20 years and many others who've been there ten years. Cassara says many employees have already found new work.
Cassara says he'll take a vacation and evaluate his options. He says he's not a guy who will "sit at home." Cassara has owned John Q's since 1992.
