(Streetsboro) – Flooding is being blamed a delayed to a Streetsboro barn fire Wednesday afternoon.
Around 5:00 p.m., Streetsboro fire received a call for a structure fire in the 300 block of State Route 303, just west of the railroad tracks. Due to heavy flooding in the area, fire trucks had to take an alternate route. Arriving on scene, crews found a large brick storage barn fully involved in fire.
Mutual aid assistance from neighboring departments arrived and helped in containing the fire.
Witnesses reported seeing a large bolt of lightning in the area of the barn, then saw the barn on fire. Investigators to believe that it was, in fact, a lightning strike that started this blaze.
The structure was a total loss. No damage estimates are available at this time as complete inventory of contents was not immediately available. There were no injuries.
Fire crews remained on the scene for an extended period extinguishing hot spots, as the structure was demolished for safety reasons by the Streetsboro Service Department.
