Ohio tops list of cussing states

(Seattle) - Ohioans have dirty mouths.

A Seattle-based company, Marchex, examined more than 600,000 phone calls from customers to businesses across 30 industries from the past 12 months. The businesses included cable and satellite companies, auto dealerships, pest control centers and more.

Researchers listened for curse words and then linked those words to where the calls came from. Ohio took the top spot for most likely to curse.

"In about 1 out of every 147 conversations a consumer from Ohio would curse on a phone call to a business," said John Busby with the Marchex Institute.

Compare that to Washington, which was at the other end of the spectrum, where callers were likely to drop curse words about once every 300 calls.

They also found that about two-thirds of the cussing callers were men and most of the swearing happend in the morning.

"Folks from Ohio get right to it," he said.

The Buckeye State topped Maryland, New Jersey, Lousiana, and Illinois. Ohio also ranked 5th on the list of states with the least courteous callers. It was the only state to make the top five on both lists.

"I would say you all have a colorful personality," said Busby.

At least you know how Ohioans feel.
