(Cleveland) – Two people were thrown from a motorcycle on Lee Road Sunday evening. Neither were wearing helmets and one did not survive.

At 7:13 p.m., Cleveland Police were called to an accident involving a car and a motorcycle at Lee Road at Sorrento Avenue. Police found a Suzuki motorcycle with two riders and a Pontiac Grand Am with two occupants involved in a serious accident.

Both riders from the Suzuki motorcycle were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where the operator of the motorcycle, 25-year-old Chas McKnight, was confined for his injuries. His passenger, 24-year-old Diamond Nix of Cleveland later died.

The driver of the Pontiac, 42-year-old Doris Owens. was transported to Meridia South Pointe Hospital, where she was treated and released for her injuries. He passenger was not injured..

The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit was notified and is investigating.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Lee Road in excess of the posted speed limit and the Pontiac was traveling northbound on Lee Road.

At Sorrento Avenue the Pontiac made a left turn in front of the motorcycle and the vehicles collided. As a result of the collision both riders on the motorcycle were ejected onto pavement. Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
