(Cuyahoga County) - Orange Village firefighters received help from several other departments in battling an early morning blaze on South Hilltop Road.

Assistant Fire Chief Dan Fritz says when they arrived at 6:01am, flames were coming from a 2 story home, and the owner of the house had escaped on his own.

Fritz reveals the owner was the only person inside was awoke to smoke and flames. He declined any medical treatment. Fritz reports the fire spread quickly after reaching the attic forcing them to take defensive measures.

So far there's no cause, but Fritz says the blaze may have started in the center of the home. House appears to be a total loss.

Eda Halberg awoke this morning to see her neighbor's house engulfed in flames. She says the home was occupied by a man and his two sons and they are very nice people.

Ricrisha Barrett works at the group home next door, and says her clients did not have to evacuate, but they complained of burning eyes because of the smoke.

The blaze was brought under control around 7:30am but the fire continued to smolder hours afterward.
