(Bedford)- Bedford police are investigating a car accident that left three people dead.

Police say At 9:42pm Friday police responded to a 2-car motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Northfield Rd (Rt-8) and Berwyn St.

One vehicle was occupied by one person, age 48, from Warrensville Hts. The male driver was south on Northfield Rd and reportedly failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Berwyn. The male was transported to the hospital, treated and released, and is being held by Bedford Police.

The second vehicle was occupied by five people from Maple Hts. a mother 30, and her four children ages 12, 10, 8 and 5, that reportedly was traveling east on Berwyn through a green traffic light.

Maria Thorpe 30, Zariah Roberts 8, and Zyanah Roberts 5, died as a result of the crash. The 12 year old was treated and released. The 10 year old was transported to an area hospital and is reported in critical condition.

The crash is being investigated by the Southeast Area Law Enforcement (SEALE) Accident Investigative Team.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed as of the time of this release. The roadway has reopened.
