(Rocky River)- Snowplow crews are out, trying to clear ice and snow while conserving their dwindling salt supplies.

A worse-than-usual winter has forced Rocky River Safety-Service Director Mary Kay Costello to watch the city's salt dome go empty while waiting for new shipments.

Officials in several northeast Ohio communities are in Rocky River's position, with some limiting salt use or mixing what salt they have with gravel to make it last.

Meantime, the Ohio Department of Transportation is making an emergency salt buy to share with governments across the state until supplies improve.
