(Cleveland) - Colin Powell was the keynote speaker at the Cleveland Foundation's Annual Meeting. The Cleveland Foundation is 100 years old, and a gala celebration was held at the State Theater in Playhouse Square.

The former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff held a press conference before the event and said that he has always admired the Cleveland Foundation and its service to the community.

Powell also talked about the troubles facing the nation's Veteran Administration hospitals. He explained that part of the problem is that due to recent wars, as VA hospitals have been overwhelmed with requests for treatment.

Powell admitted that he is troubled by reports that wait times at some VA hospitals may have been fudged, but believes that is something Congress and the Obama Administration need to investigate. Overall, Powell believes the quality of care at VA hospitals remains high.

On the subject of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, Powell said it's great the former POW was brought home where he belongs. He's not concerned about how the deal was done.

Powell said he is disappointed with the Iraqi Army’s ability to stem violence in that nation.

Powell declined to predict if Cleveland will win the bid to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.
