(Lorain) Nearly two dozen residents were evacuated from their homes Tuesday night after crews working on a road near Oberlin Avenue hit a natural gas line.

Fumes started pooring out of the 10 inch section of pipe causing the Lorain fire department to go door to door on West 12th and 13th streets telling residents they need to evacuate.

Some residents took shelter at the main fire station.

Crews from Columbia Gas repaired the gas line and residents were allowed to return home a few hours later.
