Study: Alcohol Abuse Linked To Dementia Risk

A new study says excessive alcohol use could more than double a person's risk of all types of dementia.  The study of more than a million adults suffering from dementia found alcohol abuse appears to be particularly linked to early-onset dementia.  Researchers studied the records of people released from hospitals in France.  They found alcohol-use disorders in more than 16% of the men and 4% of women with dementia.

The percentages are more than double those for men and women without dementia.  The study is published in the journal "Lancet Public Health."
