Selena Gomez' introspective look at her life from 2016 to 2020, "My Mind & Me", starts streaming today on Apple TV+. The documentary kicks off with the then-23-year-old preparing for her "Revival" tour in spring 2016. As she broke down over wardrobe, stage design and more, Gomez admitted that “the pressure” to succeed was “overwhelming because I want to do the best I can.” She ultimately canceled the tour after 55 dates, checking into a treatment center following what she called a “psychotic break,” and continued sporadically seeking treatment over the course of three years.
The elephant in the room throughout is her on again, off again relationship with Justin Bieber. While he's only name-checked once, his presence and the effect he had on Gomez is clear throughout. “I feel haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of, but then I just moved past it. And I wasn’t afraid anymore,” the actress/singer explained. She’s up front about how her 2019 single “Lose You to Love Me” was her way of officially closing that chapter.
While the documentary concludes in 2020, in 2022 Selena is in a much better place. Her tv series "Only Murders In The Building" is a critical success as is her performance, she's evidently and publicly put any speculation that she and Hailey Bieber are at odds over Justin to rest, and now, with her documentary, she is open and candid about her mental health and journey towards wellness. Life is good.
