Let’s face it, one of the best parts of the holidays? COOKIES! But which it “the best?” It depends where you live – and that’s why the folks at Guilty Eats have compiled a list of the top Christmas cookies in all 50 states. If you don’t find your state below, the full list can be found HERE.

  • Alaska: Chocolate Linzers – Not familiar? These are ‘sandwich’ cookies with filling usually made with chocolate or raspberry jam.
  • California: Biscotti – An Italian classic flavored with anise (though there are also plenty of other flavors like chocolate chip!).
  • Connecticut: Snickerdoodle – The state cookie of Connecticut, this is basically a cinnamon-y sugar cookie…though some recipes include brown butter.
  • Florida: Key Lime Pie Sandwich Cookies – Key lime crème between two mini sugar cookies…need we say more?
  • Georgia: Stuffed Peanut Butter Cookies – Traditional peanut butter cookies stuffed with more peanut butter.
  • Hawaii: White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies – A spin on the traditional chocolate chip. This one’s made with macadamia nuts and white chocolate chips or chunks.
  • Iowa: Swedish Kringla – Fluffy and sweet, and made with plenty of sugar and butter, they can be eaten frosted or unfrosted.
  • Louisiana: Palmiers – A very light layered cookie made from butter and sugar that originated in France.
  • Mississippi: Mississippi Mud Pie Cookies – Yup… made with the same ingredients as the pie – brownies, chocolate custard and a chocolate or vanilla flavored base.
  • New Jersey: Classic Italian ‘Rainbow Cookies’ – It’s hard to call these cookies…because they’re made with three layers of almond-flavored cake with apricot or raspberry jam in the middle then dipped in dark chocolate. But they are yummy!
  • Ohio: Classic Buckeye Delights – Of course we had to talk about Buckeyes when we got to the state of Ohio! Buckeyes aren't only the name of one of Ohio's beloved sports teams, but a super delicious and very rich peanut butter and chocolate dessert. To take it down just a bit, bale it into a sugar cookie or cereal base...delish!
  • Tennessee: Crème de Menthe Cookies – Sugar cookies on the outside, crème de menthe-flavored cream on the inside with chocolate ganache frosting on top.
  • Washington: Santa Sugar Cookies – A classic heart-shaped Christmas sugar cookie turned upside down with brown M&Ms for Santa’s eyes and red and white frosting for decor.
