A student at Cardiff University in the UK admits to using ChatGPT to write an essay for him…and he received the highest grade he’d ever gotten as a result. Tom, which isn’t his real name, had a 2.1-grade point average. He decided to submit two 2,500-word essays, one he’d written…and another that was created by Artificial Intelligence. The essay that he’d physically written received an average grade. The AI essay scored off the charts. During the January assessment period, the Cardiff wi-fi network showed over 14K visits to the ChatGPT site. The month before, there were zero, so word definitely caught on. Still, Cardiff University believes that “there’s nothing to suggest those 14K visits were for illegitimate purposes.”
