There’s making an entrance, and then there’s making an entrance fit for a queen. Rhianna and ASAP Rocky walked the cream carpet last night about two hours after most had already made their entrance, and her outfit was worth the wait. Wearing a silky white gown and hooded puffer jacket, she stole the entire show, even though there were plenty of scene-stealers at this year’s gala, dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld.

Attendees honoring Lagerfeld with their outfits included:

  • Supermodel Ashley Graham, who wore a custom pink and black gown designed by Harris Reed and inspired by Lagerfeld’s work at Chanel in the late 80s and early 90s.
  • “The Last of Us” stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey had their own unique takes on formal wear last night, with Pascal dressed in black shorts with a red shirt, a long red coat, and a pair of black military-style boots, and Ramsey wearing a decorated black coat with matching pants and a skirt over the top.
  • Cardi B brought two looks to her second Met Gala appearance. She started the night with a custom Miss Sohee gown that included a pink pleated tulle piece behind her head and ended with a black gown decorated with large rose details, a silver wig, pearl earrings, and long black gloves.
  • Chanel muse Devon Aoki made her first Met Gala appearance in a custom off-the-shoulder black and white gown from Jeremy Scott.
  • Serena Williams and Karlie Closs both accessorized in a surprising way, as both sported baby bumps as they walked the carpet, with Williams telling La La Anthony during Vogue’s live red carpet show that she felt good, and that she could “stop hiding now.”
  • Bad Bunny was a show stopper with a stole made of white roses and a tweed Jacquemus suit…with no back. Label founder Simon Porte Jacquemus wore a very similar backless suit to the Gala, but in black.
  • Janelle Monae paid tribute to Lagerfeld, but also wore a white cat purse in honor of the designer’s cat Choupette.
  • Doja Cat fittingly wore a hooded dress with glittering cat ears and feline facial prosthetics as a nod to Choupette.
  • Jared Leto went “whole hog” with his tribute to the famous feline and showed up in a full cat costume.
  • What about Choupette herself? She posted to her Instagram account earlier in the day that she was invited to walk the carpet but decided to stay home.
  • Numerous stars and fashion icons paid tribute to Lagerfeld personal aesthetic, with Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan wearing black shades, black leather fingerless gloves, and a charcoal gray pinstripe suit and tie.
  • Designer Tommy Hilfiger wore a suit made from vintage Chanel fabric and a shirt that was gifted to him by Lagerfeld himself.
  • WNBA player Brittney Griner and her wife attended the Met Gala, wearing Calvin Klein down the carpet.
  • Florence Pugh wore an enormous feathered headpiece on the carpet and not much underneath, sporting a buzzcut. She was accompanied by Valentino head Pierpaolo Piccioli.
  • Kim Kardashian and Lizzo both showed up covered in pearls as a nod to Lagerfeld’s fondness for them.
  • Lil Nas X also rocked the pearls on the carpet, and not much else. He was covered in rhinestones and pearls for the event.
  • Olivia Wilde arrived in a white recreation of the famous “violin” dress Lagerfeld designed, and Vogue China editor-in-chief Margaret Zhang obviously thought it was a good choice, since she wore a recreation of the dress in the original color but with a train.
  • Gisele Bundchen wore a vintage white Chanel dress with a feathery floor-length cape to the Gala, a dress she says she wore for an editorial she did with Lagerfeld in the mid-2000s.
  • Gisele wasn’t the only one to bring out a classic, as Nicole Kidman wore a Karl Lagerfeld-designed gown to the Gala that she wore in her famous 2004 Chanel No5 commercial directed by Baz Luhrmann.
  • Anne Hathaway wore a white gown held together by golden safety pins as she walked the carpet.
  • Billie Eilish wore a partially see-through black outfit for the 2023 Met Gala.
  • There was nothing partial about the sheerness of the stylish black gown Rachel Brosnahan
  • Black was a popular color this year, as Margot Robbie showed off a black one-shoulder gown.
  • Dua Lipa wore a cream corset gown, while Olivia Rodrigo wore a black-and-white striped gown, Phoebe Bridgers showed off a sleek black dress, and Jenna Ortega sported a vintage look black and white outfit that captured the look of her character in “Wednesday,” And Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her husband Nick wore black and white looks.
