A study from the National Institute of Health found that in 2022, more Americans were using weed than tobacco. The July 2022 study found:

  • 14% said they’d smoked marijuana in the last week…that’s an all-time high (so to speak)
  • 48% of Americans admitted to trying marijuana at least once
  • In 1969, only 4% of Americans said yes to that same question
  • Conversely, in 1969, 40% of Americans said they’d smoked cigarettes in the last week
  • In July of 2022 that number had decreased to 11%
  • When it comes to 18-to-34-year-olds, 30% say they currently smoke weed, while 8% say they smoke cigarettes
  • In October of 2021, 68% of Americans said they believed weed should be legalized throughout the country, as compared to 12% in 1969
