Puff, puff, hug… A new study suggests that people who regularly partake in cannabis tend to be more empathetic, according to a study in the “Journal of Neuroscience Research”. Researchers at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México compared weed smokers’ brain activity with non-smokers’ brain activity and found that the region linked to empathy was more active in tokers, thus suggesting they’re better at being able to feel someone else’s emotions.

What kind of real-world effect could this have? Scientists think the findings could help in treating people with social disorders with one doctor saying, “Although further research is needed, these results open an exciting new window for exploring the potential effects of cannabis […] for conditions like sociopathy and social anxiety.”
