It seems like something that shouldn’t need to be said, but here it is anyway…don’t give weed to your pets. With more and more states becoming marijuana-friendly, there are times when bad decisions are made. The week after recreational cannabis was made legal in Illinois, there were two reported incidents of “marijuana intoxication in pets.” Should your pet ingest marijuana, you’d be well advised to get it to a vet immediately.

  • They can exhibit a low heart rate, and may become “so sedated they cannot swallow or stand”
  • They may even “inhale their own vomit”
  • Veterinarian Dorrie Black says there’s nothing about pot that can technically kill them, but “pets can go into a coma within a few hours of ingestion,” so it’s “key to have your pet evaluated” ASAFP

The bottom line is this…don’t give your dog weed. Thank you.
