Shrinkflation is a part of our lives now, as packages of everything from toilet paper to chips seem to be smaller while the price stays the same. Frustrated Chipotle customers have been complaining that the portions of their burritos, bowls and other menu items are also getting skimpier, but as we told you, the chain denies it. And now a hack is going viral on social media because it claims to get you a fat portion at the restaurant.
According to several social media users, all you have to do is take your phone out while your food is being prepared at Chipotle and it’ll get you a bigger serving. The idea is that if employees think they’re being filmed for skimping on food, they’ll pile more on to avoid going viral for all the wrong reasons.
"People on social media have been dragging Chipotle so hard that allegedly a memo was sent out to Chipotle employees, instructing them to fill up the bowls as much as possible if someone has their phone out or is filming while ordering," Alex Friedman wrote on X. Another user on X shared a video of them testing the hack out and it definitely worked for them, as their bowl was loaded with beans, chicken and guac.
- Of course, not everyone thinks this hack is a good idea. Some people are posting that it’s extremely greedy for people to do this, including X user Jill Kent, who writes that it’s an “obnoxious trend.” She calls out people for “shaming” Chipotle workers “to get an extra helping of guacamole and beans as though this is some brave act of rebellion that 'sticks it to the man' instead of harassing people for doing their jobs.”
