What makes women feel beautiful? It’s all about being healthy, new research suggests. According to a new poll of 2-thousand American women, 79% say if they feel healthy on the inside, they’ll feel more beautiful on the outside.

The survey also reveals:

  • Eight in 10 women prioritize feeling healthy over looking beautiful.
  • Improving both their mental/emotional health (33%) and physical health (33%) makes women feel more beautiful than improving their physical appearance (22%).
  • Women start feeling pressure to look younger at age 39, on average, but 40% of respondents don’t currently feel that pressure.
  • Some women feel confident about their natural beauty, including 78% who say they’ve never even considered getting Botox or fillers.
  • While 72% have a daily beauty care routine, 28% don’t have one at all. Of those that do, the routine only takes an average of just over 11 minutes a day.
  • Women see messages that promote physical beauty an average of four times a day, through social media (59%), TV ads (55%) and even their friend groups (33%).
  • Of course, these ads can have a negative effect on the way women see themselves, as 24% say seeing these ads make them wish they were younger and 23% say the ads make them feel less confident in their appearance.
  • More women say they’re not afraid of getting older (16%) than those who admit they’re afraid of aging (14%).
  • Overall, women feel an average of eight years younger than their actual age.
  • And more than half (53%) of respondents over age 60 feel more confident as they age.
