How Much Americans Spend To Get Yards Party-Ready

Summer is the season for outdoor entertaining, is your yard ready? A new survey finds that 81% of people say they’re looking forward to hosting parties in their backyard this year, but 14% admit they really don’t.

According to the poll of 2-thousand Americans with a backyard:

  • A third (34%) say they’d need some time to improve their yard before having people over.
  • They estimate that it would take them about seven hours a week to fix up their backyard and as much as $14-hundred to get it ready for guests.
  • That budget includes things like proper patio furniture (57%), or fixing up existing patio furniture (39%), setting up bug repellants (37%) and installing lights (36%).
  • After spending on backyard improvement, the average person thinks they could host a party for as little as $190
  • Respondents say that to host eight guests, they’d need a proper place to cook (77%), good patio furniture (75%) and plenty of shade (53%) in the yard.
  • Three-quarters (76%) of people plan to host an average of three outdoor dinner parties or cookouts this year, and 11% will be hosting for the very first time.
  • Respondents say the best occasions for outdoor gatherings are holidays (54%), birthdays (51%), and when family and friends are visiting (45%).
  • Hosts’ favorite foods to serve are grilled meats (89%), potato salad (64%), grilled veggies (58%), melon fruits (58%) and salads (51%).
  • The best months for outdoor gatherings are warm ones, July (26%), June (25%), April (24%) and May (20%).
