It’s easy to get frustrated with dating apps, as all that swiping can take its toll. There’s a lot of expert advice out there about how to create a profile that will help you get more matches, but a new report may be even more helpful. It reveals the biggest “icks” people see on dating app bios.

Forbes Health polled 1,000 U.S. adults who’ve used a dating app within the last year to find out what’s most likely to make them pass on a profile. According to the survey:

  • First impressions are crucial, as it only takes an average of two and a half minutes to decide whether to swipe right or left on a match. But some people decide much faster, a quarter of respondents take just 31- to 60-seconds to make up their minds, 21% spend between one and two minutes, but 12% decide in less than 30 seconds.

Considering how little time you have to impress someone with your profile, you’ll want to avoid the top icks that make users not match with someone.

  1. Negativity or bitterness in their bio (70%).
  2. Overly-edited or filtered photos (63%)
  3. Too much emphasis on material possessions (62%)
  4. Lack of effort put into their profile (60%)
  5. Poor grammar and spelling (60%)

The survey also reveals the top dating profile green flags that make someone more likely to match with a person.

  2. Having hobbies, interests or pastimes (80%)
  3. Portraying a good sense of style (76%)
