It’s awards season in Hollywood, the time of year when celebs want to look their very best as they walk the red carpet. The Oscars are coming up this weekend, so many A-listers are getting ready for the big event with their glam squad to have that glow to their skin when the cameras are flashing. While you’re probably not walking the red carpet at an awards show, you may have a special event to attend and one expert shares how to get that glow without spending a fortune.

Dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe says it all comes down to the right beauty and health practices. These are her tips for making your skin shine like your favorite stars:

  • 5 days before the big event - "The neck and décolletage are just as important as the face -- especially with the latest trend towards plunging necklines," explains Bowe. She recommends treating all three areas the same, so any product you’d use on your face, do the same for your neck and chest. Start smoothing on a vitamin C serum five days before the event to brighten, firm and even out skin tone.
  • 3 days before your big event - This expert says healthy skin habits start from the inside out and she recommends avoiding dairy, skim milk in particular. Also ditch refined carbs and sugars, and drink plenty of water to flush your system, hydrate and brighten your skin.
  • Add some grapefruit juice and rosemary to your water - Pink grapefruit is high in vitamin C, which helps with forming and repairing tissue, Bowe says. Rosemary is a good source of vitamin B6, which supports healthy levels of collagen, which “keeps skin firm and youthful.” This detox water helps keep skin hydrated and flushes the system so skin is “bright and healthy.”
  • 1 night before your event - Do an exfoliating mask on your arms and the tops of your hands to dissolve dead skin cells. After washing that off, apply a hydrating sheet mask, one with royal jelly will really seal in moisture, according to Bowe. Store your jade roller in the freezer for three minutes before using it to roll on your sheet mask.
  • The morning of your event - “Matte is out, dewy, glass skin is in,” explains Bowe. ‘Mix a few drops of a liquid highlighter ... into your foundation to lock in moisture and keep the skin looking hydrated and healthy all night long.”
