An 11-year-old girl has been arrested after emulating an online challenge by falsely reporting that her friend had been kidnapped, according to the police. Authorities say the girl, who has not been named because of her age, “thought it would be funny” to call a sheriff’s dispatch and report that her friend had been kidnapped “by an armed male driving a white van on South I-95 in Oak Hill” and that she was following them in a blue Jeep. “For the next hour and a half, the girl texted updates including a description of the male suspect and that he had a gun,” according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. Deputies eventually tracked the calls to the girl’s home where her father informed them she was inside. The 11-year-old reportedly told officers she got the idea to prank 911 through a challenge she watched online. However, the fun and games are over now that the child has been charged with making a false police report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner, which is a felony, and misuse of 911, which is a misdemeanor. She is now currently being held in a Juvenile Detention Center in Florida.
