A morbid new wellness trend is gaining traction online while making its way to New York and Los Angeles. The trend is called “death mediation” and involves wrapping your body up like a mummy and then writing your eulogy…while also imagining your decaying body in the ground.
This practice, which has 2.5 million views on TikTok and classes popping up on each coast, is a form of exposure therapy designed to help people come to terms with mortality. Meanwhile, it can force participants to live life to the fullest, with licensed psychologist Dr. Carolyn Rubenstein adding, “We're not immortal, and having that recognition is important so that you make the most of today.”
