A California man discovered he's been paying his neighbor's utility bill for nearly two decades after a power company error. Ken Wilson, who lives alone, noticed unusually high electricity charges and, after investigating, found his apartment was linked to the wrong meter.
Pacific Gas and Electric sent a worker to check his meter. The employee confirmed that Wilson’s apartment, unit 90, was linked to the wrong meter; he was paying the utility bill for unit 91. Even worse, this mix-up dates back to 2006.
PG&E apologized for the issue, saying it would be fixed by the next billing cycle. “I feel powerless right now because I can’t control my own meter,” Wilson explained. He hopes his story raises awareness for others facing similar problems.
