Where do ghosts really like to hang out? It seems they prefer some parts of the country more than others and a new study highlights their favorite haunts.

  • Freepik did their research to find the most haunted states in the U.S.
  • They gathered data from a variety of sources to identify which ones are home to the most ghost sightings and haunted locations.
  • It seems ghosts aren’t very interested in the Sunshine State. It’s actually the least haunted state, as there have only been 7.9 ghost sightings for every 100-thousand residents in Florida, and only 1.5 haunted places reported.
  • So, where do the spirits want to spook? Way out west in Wyoming, which has 13 haunted places and 37.3 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people, making it the most haunted state.

  1. Wyoming - 13 haunted places and 37.3 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  2. North Dakota - 7.4 haunted places and 52.2 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  3. South Dakota - 8.2 haunted places and 46.6 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  4. Vermont - 9.73 haunted places and 37.53 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  5. Maine - 4.08 haunted places and 58.03 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  6. Oklahoma - 5.2 haunted places and 48.65 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  7. Kentucky - 8.17 haunted places and 27.77 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  8. West Virginia - 5.99 haunted places and 34.57 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  9. Iowa - 5.27 haunted places and 33.24 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
  10. Nebraska - 5.61 haunted places and 30.18 ghost sightings per 100-thousand people
