It's been less than a week since Liam Payne has tragically passed away, and the former One Direction singer's family and friends have been taking to social media to remember him. But, the fans are also remembering Liam with memorials and vigils across the world, including in New York City.

Over the weekend, NYC fans gathered at Washington Square Park with candles, balloons, letters, cards, flowers and more to mourn the late star.

Speaking to CBS News, several fans talked about the impact that Payne has had on their life. As one fan, Liza Edelstein, explained, "To so many, it's like he's just a musician, you don't know him personally ... But the impact that he had and One Direction as a whole had on our lives, like, I wouldn't have met the people that I met today. I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing in my career today."

Payne was found dead at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina after falling from the balcony of his third floor room into the courtyard. According to CNN, a preliminary autopsy report shows that the former One Direction singer died from multiple injuries causing "internal and external hemorrhage."

Payne was just 31 years old, and leaves behind his seven-year-old son Bear, who he shares with ex Cheryl Cole.
