There’s no shortage of beauty hacks on TikTok and the latest trend is all about a certain shade for manicures. “The red nail theory” has been all over the platform recently and it’s the idea men are more attracted to red nails and that when you wear the color on your nails, it helps you score more dates somehow.
There are hundreds of videos with the hashtag #rednailtheory, which has racked up more than 68-million views so far. TikToker @GirlBossTown is being credited for coming up with the trend, explaining that she always thought red nails were “like a grandma nail color,” but she has found that every time she wears red nails, she gets more compliments from men about them. Now hundreds of other women are claiming their red nails have landed them more dates than they’ve ever seen.
TikTok user Melisse Martineau swears it works for her, too. “The red nail theory is real,” she says in a video, explaining that she’s “never been asked out on so many dates or complimented as much” as she has in the past few weeks with her nails painted red. Another TikToker, Navya Passi, says in her video that with her red nails, she’s received more compliments from both men and women. But better than that? The way they make her feel. She says, “I personally think that they look hot, and I feel super powerful when I have them on.”
