Anyone who flies regularly knows that food prices tend to go up when you’re dining in an airport terminal. New York Times reporter David Brooks took to Twitter to accentuate that point. The picture he posted showed a burger, fries, and what appears to be some kind of whisky-or-scotch-based cocktail
and in the caption he wrote, “This meal just cost me $78 at Newark Airport. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible.” Looking at the cut of the fries, the type of glass the drink was served in, and the furniture, Rebekah Jones replied to Brooks’ post and surmised that he was eating at the Smokehouse Restaurant in Terminal A
where that burger and fries feast costs $17
meaning that Brooks’ outrage over the bill didn’t include his bar tab. Another respondent added a photo of a package of bologna and a fifth of Bacardi
and expressed similar outrage that it costs $30 to make a bologna sandwich, adding “Thanks Obama!”
