A family outing to California's "Clam Capital of the World" in Pismo Beach proved to be an expensive lesson when Charlotte Russ's kids innocently collected 72 clams, mistaking them for seashells. The problem was that the family didn’t have a fishing license so this little “whoopsie” resulted in an initial $89-thousand fine from wildlife officials.
Though the staggering penalty was later reduced to $500, the mother of five lamented that the ordeal "ruined our trip" yet taught her children to respect wildlife regulations. Making light of the harmless mix-up, Russ commemorated her "win" with a shellfish tattoo, acknowledging the "unforgettable" and expensive trip.
