Do you let your kids skip their bath if they’ve been swimming in a pool? Some parents think that makes a fair replacement for a real bath, but one mom who joked about it on social media is being hit with backlash.

“Happy ‘the pool counts as a bath’ season to all who participate!” Colorado mom of two Neely Gracey wrote in a recent Instagram post with a video of her young boys at their neighborhood pool. She captioned it, “Please tell me I’m not the only mom who celebrates.” And the post went viral with over 104-thousand likes and more than 10-thousand comments, many of them from people slamming the mom for not properly bathing her children during the summer.

  • “No way man,” one commenter writes. “Pool day means it’s DEFINITELY a tubby night for my kiddos. So gross, chemicals, sunscreen, sweat, pee, salt, etc.”
  • “That’s disgusting,” comments another, while a third writes, “Oh that’s nasty!”
  • And another writes, “People wonder how a pandemic happened.”

All the negative attention totally surprised Gracey, who says she wasn’t trying to create controversy with the post. “Every parent knows the epic battles that ensue from trying to get your kids into the bath, and then trying to get them out of the bath,” she explains. “I just wanted to give parents permission to have fun with their kids this summer.” And for the record, Gracey insists she does actually bathe her kids after they get out of the pool.
