While a lot of Americans are taking a break from booze with a Dry January, there’s a lot to look forward to this year when it comes to cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. The team of experts at Mashed is sharing the top trends that will be taking over in 2025.

Here’s what they predict everyone will be drinking this year:

  • Cocktails with savory ingredients - Move over drinks made with sweet ingredients like fruit juices and sodas and make room for savory. Beyond Bloody Marys, there’s the Tomatotini, which includes muddled cherry tomatoes, vermouth, gin, lemon juice and champagne vinegar. The Tom Kha-llins, is a spin on the classic Tom Collins, with a bit of tom kha Thai coconut soup, while the cleverly named Celine Dijon is made of Dijon mustard and passionfruit mixed with tequila, sauvignon blanc and lime juice.
  • “Dirty dump” cocktails - These are made by adding ingredients to a shaker, but instead of straining them after mixing, the drink contains the little bits of herbs and fruits for your enjoyment.
  • Fancy shots and shooters with lots of ingredients - Shots are usually basic, containing just straight liquor, while shooters contain several ingredients, and this year, they’re being served with more flair from upscale ingredients, like house-made syrups.
  • Focus on tropical flavors - Piña coladas fans will love this trend, which moves beyond the classic cocktail to feature some less-common tropical drinks. There’s the Miami Vice, which combines a piña colada and a strawberry daiquiri with bitters-infused strawberries, and the Halo-Halo, a bright purple drink that gets its vibrant hue from ube milk added to light rum, Brazilian rum, pineapple juice, fresh lime juice and has a dehydrated mango or pineapple garnish.
  • Micro mini cocktails - Tiny alcoholic drinks will be trendy this year, allowing people to sample different cocktails without overdoing it and suffering later with a massive hangover. Pretty much any cocktail can be enjoyed in mini form, all you need is the right size drinkware, but some popular ones include the One-Sip Martini, the Snaquiri, a tiny daiquiri, and the Mini Manhattan.
