Simon Cowell is diving back into the boy band scene, looking to create a new group similar to One Direction. Almost 15 years after forming that group on "X Factor," Cowell announced his search for "future megastars" with recruitment billboards in London that read, "Simon needs you! Future megastars wanted for a new boyband. No time wasters."

Cowell explains that his new project is needed since there haven’t been many impactful boy bands since One Direction, as the music industry has been focused on solo artists. Auditions will begin this summer, starting in Newcastle on July 4th, with additional auditions in Liverpool, Dublin, and London.

While admitting that there are some risks, given that the last successful non-K-Pop group, Little Mix, went on hiatus in 2022, Cowell is still optimistic. He points out the success of One Direction members, particularly Harry Styles, who’s gone on to win three Grammys. Cowell believes his new boy band could likewise serve as a strong launchpad for future solo careers.
